Cincinnati Bengals defensive player Michael Johnson, who has never missed a game in his career, has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, after a three-sack performance against the Washington Redskins in which he terrorized rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. Along with the three quarterback sacks, Johnson also generated seven additional hits on the quarterback. Three games deep into the regular season, Johnson leads the team with most sacks (4) and quarterback hurries (6).

This is Johnson's first NFL award in a career that began as a third round pick during the 2009 NFL draft. Before this season Johnson's best year came in 2011 where he generated a career-high six quarterbacks sacks, 42 tackles and posted an interception and forced fumble.
