Bengals 2012 first round pick Dre Kirkpatrick recently had a bump in the road to recovering a knee injury, when it appeared that the team may have rushed him back prematurely. If you remember, the Bengals let Kirkpatrick practice about a week ago and he began to feel soreness in his knee. He didn't play in the preseason finale.
Now, According to head coach Marvin Lewis, Kirkpatrick will still need a couple of weeks before he can get back to work and possibly begin contributing this year.
The Bengals wisely ended up keeping six cornerbacks on the roster this season, though three of those six (including Kirkpatrick) have been largely unavailable this preseason. Adam Jones has been nursing soreness and a pulled hamstring and only appeared in one preseason game and a handful of practices. Free agent signee, Jason Allen, hasn't barely practiced at all and didn't appear in any of the four games. Those two will need to step up while Kirkpatrick continues to rest.
