Bengals not looking at CB help through free agency

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis told reporters on Monday that they're not planning to sign a street free agent in response to Leon Hall's injury.

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis told reporters on Monday that the Bengals won't be looking to sign a free agent off the street in response to Leon Hall's reported Achilles injury against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

"Not going to get guy off street that will outplay anyone in this building," said Lewis via Paul Dehner.

Translation: No one on the street is betting that Chris Lewis-Harris, the team's last cornerback on the depth chart. Translation II: No free agent signings at the very least; though we're not sure if the context included any hints of a trade; which we view as the least of all likely scenarios.

With Hall likely done for the season with a suspected Achilles tear, it promotes Adam Jones from nickel to the starting line up and moves everyone else up the team's depth chart. After Jones, the team has former first-round pick Dre Kirkpatrick and Brandon Ghee, who usually looks good but struggles to remain healthy long enough to make a serious impression.

At the very least, it appears to be an acknowledgement from Lewis that Hall is done for the season; at this point, a foregone conclusion.
