Washington Redskins fire Mike Shanahan

The Washington Redskins transformed an inevitability into a reality, announcing that they've fired head coach Mike Shanahan after four seasons and a 24-39 record (.381) with only one playoff appearance (a loss). The Redskins finished the '13 season at 3-13, including an eighth consecutive loss after Sunday's 20-6 defeat to the New York Giants. Shanahan was scheduled to meet with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder Monday morning, where he was informed that he would be fired.

Losses haven't been the only issues either. There have been several clashes with players with quarterback Robert Griffin III and before that, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

"I thought we've done a lot of good things," he said Sunday night. "But at the end of the day, you’ve got to win. We weren’t able to do that, and for whatever reason, I’m responsible for that and disappointed we couldn’t get that done."

Shanahan wasn't the only casualty. According to multiple reports, the entire Redskins coaching staff has been fired.
