NFL Insider Adam Caplan wrote that according to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Cincinnati Bengals will "likely pass on re-signing" inside linebacker Rey Maualuga. Based on his production in 2012, especially during the postseason against the Houston Texans and the rise of second-year linebacker Vontaze Burfict projected to make the move inside, it was one of those foregone conclusions.
However don't exclude Maualuga from Cincinnati's plans in 2013 just yet.
According to Geoff Hobson with Bengals.com, a source "with knowledge of the situation" called Caplan's report "inaccurate" and that the Bengals are open to bringing Maualuga back and moving him back to the strong-side, where he played his first two seasons. Hobson writes that the Bengals are "still engaged with him", presumably to facilitate probable negotiations if talk of money hasn't been discussed yet.
