Ohio State Tight End Jake Stoneburner Looking To Improve Draft Stock

Though declaring that a certain team is interested in a prospect during the NFL Combine can be somewhat misleading (teams are interested in mostly everyone), Ohio State Buckeyes tight end Jake Stoneburner drew serious interest from the Green Bay Packers. During an interview with the media, Stoneburner said that he sat during interviews with Packers general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy.

"It was pretty cool," said Stoneburner. "I wouldn't say it was generic but they got to sit down and got to know you as a player, know you and your family and kinda ask you a little bit about yourself. It was pretty cool."

Stoneburner, a native of Dublin, Ohio, finished his senior year with 16 receptions, 269 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

Green Bay has no issues favoring Ohio State players, with several on their existing roster from A.J. Hawk, Ryan Pickett and Brandon Saine.

That being said Stoneburner grew up a Bengals fan with his favorite player being the team's all-time wide receiver.

"Chad Johnson," Stoneburner said. "No doubt. That's why I wore 85 in high school because of him."

The tight end prospect finished his college career with 53 receptions, 714 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns.

It's doubtful that the Bengals would draft a third tight end as receiving specialist; though if they do draft someone it would be primarily as a blocker and CBS Sports writes that he "displays some tenacity as a blocker and does a nice job on the perimeter."

He's projected as a Saturday pick, Stoneburner told the media Thursday.

"As of right now I'm hearing the back half, between the fourth and seventh (rounds) but it could all change with some good times here in Indianapolis."
