NFL.com Mock Draft: Cincinnati Bengals Select Notre Dame Linebacker Manti Te'o

NFL.com has the Bengals selecting the former Notre Dame linebacker in the first round. But is there a spot for Te'o?

US PRESSWIRE

The newest mock from NFL.com, written by former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah, has the Cincinnati Bengals selecting Notre Dame inside linebacker Manti Te'o.

"Is there a team better equipped to handle the Te'o situation? Marvin Lewis has dealt with Chad Johnson/Ochocinco, Terrell Owens, the late Chris Henry, Pacman Jones and Vontaze Burfict. He'll gladly welcome questions about a fake girlfriend. All of the craziness aside, Te'o is a solid player and would fill a need for the Bengals."

Taking Manti Te'o would be somewhat puzzling. Putting aside the silly questions about Teo's character, he doesn't fill a need for the Bengals.

Cincinnati Enquirer writer Joe Reedy conjectured, along with anyone that's followed the Bengals, that Vontaze Burfict will be moved to middle linebacker next season. In fact if the Bengals were to take a linebacker early on, it would likely be at WILL or SAM, and even that depends on the availability and re-signing of Thomas Howard, easily the team's best linebacker two seasons ago. With Howard playing WILL, the greatest need at linebacker would be at SAM.
