2013 NFL free agency: Best Of The Rest

New, comments

Free agents are slowly but surely being signed and the pool of possible Bengals targets continues to grow smaller and smaller.

As the Bengals take their time, the pool of available free agents continues to grow smaller and smaller. There is still plenty of talent available but the Bengals will have to make a move soon to get their hands on it. The best players available today aren't much different than the best available from yesterday, but there are some that aren't available anymore.

Here's how the list breaks down.

Ed Reed is still available, as is Quintin Mikell, but both Kenny Phillips and Patrick Chung have been signed. Bernard Pollard, Kerry Rhodes, Adrian Wilson, Jairus Byrd and Louis Delmas are all still available, as are several other safeties.

Running Back:

The big name to be taken off the board on Thursday was Steven Jackson, who signed with the Falcons. There are stil some good backs available, including Ahmad Bradshaw, Michael Turner, Peyton Hillis and Felix Jones. However, none of these guys necessarily fit the description of a complementary back to BenJarvus Green-Ellis. At this point, the Bengals may sign a free agent back but it's more likely they'll look to the draft to find a new back.

The Bengals have lost linebacker Manny Lawson to the Bills and they may lose Thomas Howard, who was visiting with the Dolphins, and Rey Maualuga. Out of the three free agents, the only one that seemed important for them to re-sign was Howard, even though they could have likely used Maualuga at SAM. Karlos Dansby, Dwight Freeney, Nick Barnett, Daryl Smith, D.J. Williams and James Harrison and others are all still available, though.

Offensive Tackle:

Andre Smith is still available and the Bengals are still working hard to re-sign him. If they are unable to do so, Jake Long is the biggest name on the market as things with the Rams are beginning to seem like they may not work out. Other available offensive tackles are Sebastian Vollmer, Eric Winston, Jammal Brown, Bryant McKinnie and Jason Smith.

Wide Receivers:

The Bengals reportedly hosted Ted Ginn Jr. for a workout. Ginn could be a good fit as he's a deep threat and could take some heat off of A.J. Green. Some other free agent wide receivers include Greg Jennings, Victor Cruz (restricted), Laurent Robinson, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Austin Collie, Mohamed Massaquoi, Randy Moss, Josh Cribbs and Braylon Edwards.
