Other than the news that the Bengals have re-signed LB Rey Maualuga, Monday has been a relatively slow day for the Bengals front office. The same cannot be said for their scouting department, which has been very busy attending pro days both today and throughout the past week.
According to the latest report from Chris Steuber, the Bengals sent representatives to Indiana University's pro day. They were one of eight teams to do so. This news comes hot on the heels of another report that the team also attended Wake Forest's pro day earlier on Monday, indicating the Bengals scouting efforts are firing on all cylinders.
Of the players participating, the most notable were defensive tackle Adam Replogle and center Will Matte, neither of whom were invited to the combine earlier in February. Replogle, the 6'3", 294 pound senior, had an impressive day, as he tied the combine's bench press leader with 38 reps. He also ran a sub-5.0 second 40-yard dash, jumped 31" in the vertical, and looked smooth in his position drills. After his workout, this is what Replogle had to say:
"(I think I proved) that I can stand with the guys that got invited to the combine," Replogle said. "I think if you compare my numbers to theirs, it’s pretty comparable, my stats are pretty comparable. I think I went out here and proved myself a little bit."
Offensive center Will Matte also had a good day, He put up 31 reps on the bench and followed it up with a 5.2 40-yard dash. The biggest knock on Matte is his size, however, as he only weighs in at around 292 pounds, so he might need a couple of seasons in an NFL weight room before he can contribute. But he also has a reputation as a high IQ technician, so he might be worth a look in the later rounds for a team searching for depth at the center position.
