With the number sixty-one pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers have selected Alabama running back Eddie Lacy. Lacy is only the third running back taken so far in the 2013 draft, illustrating the plummeting value of the position in today's NFL.
At one point, Lacy was regarded as the number one overall back in this year's class, but a foot injury held him out of the combine and his pro day showing was highly disappointing. Even still, Lacy is a big, bruising running back, capable of carrying the load full-time for the Packers.
In recent years, the Packers have been without a premier running back, so Lacy should be a breath of fresh air in Green Bay. If his injury concerns are behind him, Lacy will step in immediately and probably eliminate the need for the Packers to re-sign former Bengal Cedric Benson.
