Andre Smith remains absent during voluntary practices

Monday marks the seventh OTA practice that Bengals offensive tackle Andre Smith has missed during the offseason, due to what Marvin Lewis has described as personal issues. Though the Bengals head coach has deflected the absence and pointing out that the offseason practices are voluntary, Lewis made it an emphasis that there doesn't seem to be any conditioning concerns.

Smith signed a three-year deal worth $18 million minutes before the Bengals selected their second-round selection during the 2013 NFL draft. Part of the contract includes a $3 million signing bonus and per-game roster bonuses that could give Smith an additional $3 million. He's scheduled to earn $1.9 million in 2013 and $3 million and $4.6 million over the next two seasons.

Voluntary minicamp will start next week.

Anthony Collins has taken a bulk of the first-team snaps at right tackle, with rookie Tanner Hawkinson working at left tackle while Andrew Whitworth, who is rehabilitating after an offseason knee procedure.

"It's just a little repair. Nothing big," Whitworth told Bengals.com in late January. "Everybody in the league deals with something like this. I did it about two years ago and it just wasn't getting any better. Now we've got a chance to get something done with plenty of time to rest."
