Bengals claim rookie OT Jason Weaver off waivers

The Cincinnati Bengals are adding rookies to the roster to help elevate some injuries.

Along with signing free agent rookie Jheranie Boyd earlier in the day, the Cincinnati Bengals announced that they've also acquired rookie offensive tackle Jason Weaver off waivers, also from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Weaver signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL draft out of Southern Mississippi. Weaver was released on Wednesday when the Buccaneers added several offensive linemen to their offseason roster. With Andrew Whitworth strengthening his knee, it's clear that the team doesn't want to push the veteran offensive tackle. They needed bodies for their training camp practices and the final quarter(s) in the preseason.

With the two roster additions on Thursday, the Bengals roster is set at 89 players for the time being, one below the maximum.

Cincinnati resumes training camp with a 6 p.m. practice on Thursday, another 3 p.m. session on Friday and then an off-day on Saturday. They will have two practices against the Falcons, culminating in the team's preseason opener.
