Marvin Jones and Carlos Dunlap sitting out for Thursday's practice, Smith In Pads After All

Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones, who is having an excellent camp, joined Carlos Dunlap and a handful of other players dealing with injuries and rehabilitation on Thursday.

USA TODAY Sports

During the first of two sessions designed Family Night, the Bengals kicked off practice Thursday without Marvin Jones, Carlos Dunlap, and Andre Smith suiting up. Dunlap is following NFL protocols after sustaining a concussion. We're not sure about Smith, but figure his situation is a matter of conditioning, since he's only practiced twice after being activated from the NFI list on Monday (though that would be a little depressing). Jones, Geoff Hobson writes, doesn't appear serious.

The Bengals will conclude practice at 8 p.m. on Thursday and then finish with a two-hour session on Friday (starting at 3 p.m.) before another scheduled player's day off on Saturday. Following a one-hour session on Sunday, the Bengals head to Atlanta for a series of practices before their preseason opener against the Falcons on Thursday.

UPDATE: Our own Andrew Miller tweeted that Andre Smith is in pads and is practicing, contrary to Hobson's initial report. He's got the picture to prove it.
