Marvin Lewis: A.J. Green and Andrew Whitworth Have a Chance To Play On Saturday

New, comments

Two very important offensive players have a chance to play against the Cowboys for the Bengals next preseason game.

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

After sitting out the majority of training camp, both wide receiver A.J. Green and offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth will possibly take the field on Saturday as the Bengals face the Dallas Cowboys for their third preseason game of 2013.

Green has been sidelined for nearly a month with a bruised knee, but returned to practice last week and looked good reconnecting with Dalton on the field. Whitworth has been eased back into practices while working on strengthening his surgically repaired knee. He's been leading linemen and the rest of the offense as an active participant even when not in pads, but his physical recovery seems to be complete and simply needs to focus on his stamina over the next few weeks.

The third game of preseason is typically a game which gives the most time to both first team offenses and defenses. Fortunately for the Bengals, they've been able to allow a lot of time for Green's recovery since the injury occurred during the offseason. If Green and Whitworth can play Saturday, it gives both players the opportunity to refresh themselves on the communication and rhythm of the offense before heading to Chicago for the Bengals first regular season game against the Bears.
