NFL Roster Cuts: Bengals release LB Bruce Taylor

One of the "expected" moves of final cuts, Taylor simply couldn't generate enough playing time to make the 53-man roster.

USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Bengals have informed that they're releasing rookie linebacker Bruce Taylor, according to Aaron Wilson with the Baltimore Sun and National Football Post. Taylor signed as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech, where he generated 16.5 quarterback sacks and 33.5 tackles for loss.

Taylor's preseason career in Cincinnati was less than remarkable, mostly the result of roster smothering from the level of talent listed above him on the depth chart. Taylor only took part in 57 snaps on defense, none against the Dallas Cowboys and 17 during the team's perseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts. He finished the preseason with nine tackles.

Considering that linebacker is suddenly short now with five known locks, the Bengals have released Schaffer and now Taylor leaving that spot open for the sixth player. However, Taylor wasn't expected to make the squad regardless.
