A.J. Green will begin doing on-field work this week

Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is slowly progressing, rehabilitating a bruised knee that he suffered during the first practice of training camp this year. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis spent time with local reporters prior to Sunday's walkthrough practice, updating curious minds on his progress.

For the past few days Green has been "running in the pool", which he'll continue to be doing for the time being. However, Green will begin doing "on-field stuff this week" with the remainder of the team's training staff that's not leaving for Atlanta this week.

Green suffered a knee injury when he got tangled up with Terence Newman on a deep pass. When coming down on the practice field, Green twisted his knee. The team doesn't believe that Green will miss any regular season time, but the preseason might be another story as they ease him back with a careful approach rehabilitating his knee. Green won't be making the trip to Atlanta as the team prepares for their regular season opener this Thursday against the Falcons.
