Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones has been limited in practice for several sessions dating back to the good ol's days when the team practiced in Cincinnati. Though he made the trip to Atlanta with his teammates, Jones sat out during Monday's practice with a sore hamstring that's kept him from fully participating in all drills and 11-on-11 sessions.
Don't worry. It's not something to be alarmed about with players having soreness early in training camp. It just comes with the territory.
However, Jones may not be ready to play the Atlanta Falcons this Thursday.
And if he can't go, the Bengals will be down three significant contributors at wide receiver. A.J. Green suffered a bruised knee on the first day of training camp. Andrew Hawkins suffered an ankle sprain during Family Night last Thursday.
But for as much as it would be nice to put the team's best players on the field, this actually benefits a lot of people.
There are two spots remaining (assuming that the team keeps six) for a handful of players that will have plenty of snaps this Thursday. Figure that Mohamed Sanu and Brandon Tate will start, if Jones is unable to go. However, guys like Dane Sanzenbacher, Cobi Hamilton, and Ryan Whalen will have a great opportunity to further enhance their arguments to make the 53-man roster.
