Jermaine Gresham: 'I don't deserve an extension'

With the team completing contract extensions with defensive tackle Geno Atkins and defensive end Carlos Dunlap, the next stage will focus on the offense with wide receiver A.J. Green and quarterback Andy Dalton, who are signed through 2014. Another offensive player with a contract that expires after the 2014 season is tight end Jermaine Gresham.

Despite putting together numbers that rival the best tight ends in franchise history, Gresham doesn't believe that he deserves an extension.

"I haven't earned an extension. More so Geno, those guys earned that. They definitely earned what they got," Gresham told the media in the lockerroom Thursday. "They deserved it. I'm not going to lie to you. I don't deserve it. Not right now. I've got a lot to prove. I haven't done a lot. I've got a lot of making up to do to people around the city and for the organization, so I don't think I deserve it."

In three seasons with the Bengals, the former 2010 first-round pick has been named to two AFC Pro Bowl teams with 172 career receptions, 1,804 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns. Not bad.
