Prediction Machine: Call The First Offensive Play, Defensive Result And Bengals Touchdown

For a little fun. Make some predictions against the Chicago Bears.

John Grieshop

We ran the prizeless contest last year. It's fun for everyone that gives the winner a legitimate claim to say, "See, I told you so." Soon the Cincinnati Bengals will kickoff and when they do, they'll perform an offensive play. A defensive play. And we hope to the ever loving lord of football that they'll score a touchdown.

Your job now is a prediction to answer all three questions. Again.

  1. The first offensive play that the Bengals will run;
  2. The first player on the defense (not special teams) who will score a tackle;
  3. How the team will score their first touchdown.

Offensive Play Prediction Guidelines: Try to be as specific as you can on what you think the Bengals first offensive play will be. Don't just say "pass play" or "run play". Instead, say "Andy Dalton throws a seven-yard slant to A.J. Green" or "BenJarvus Green-Ellis gains three yards up the middle." You can also predict incompletions, interceptions and fumbles if you enjoy hurting cute little puppies. A specific touchdown play works too.

Defensive Tackle Prediction Guidelines: Predicting the first defensive play is much more obscure, so this one is a simpler category and specific to the team's defense (not special teams). You can choose things like Leon Hall interception, Rey Maualuga forced fumble, Geno Atkins quarterback sack but it might be better to use a tackle instead, such as Vontaze Burfict tackle.

First Touchdown Against The Bears: Predict how you think the Bengals will score their first offensive touchdown, along with specifics of the play. You can predict it to be on offense, defense, or special teams. If you predict a passing touchdown, name both the quarterback and the receiver.

Here is the template you can copy+paste for your comments:

First Touchdown:

Here are my predictions...

First Offensive Play: Play-action, incomplete pass to A.J. Green down the sidelines
First Defensive Tackle: Vontaze Burfict
First Touchdown: Andy Dalton completes a 25-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Green

LAST YEAR

We ran the contest last year. Here's what happened:

First Offensive Play: Incomplete pass to A.J. Green
First Defensive Tackle: Leon Hall
First Touchdown: BenJarvus Green-Ellis six-yard touchdown run

A lot of people correctly guessed the incomplete pass, but not one picked Hall to record the first tackle and a couple picked Green-Ellis to score the team's first touchdown.
