When the Cincinnati Bengals lost to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, they faced intense criticism from fans, the local media and national media. You can add former Bengals wide receiver Cris Collinsworth, who rips the Bengals on Wednesday's episode of Inside the NFL.
"They were terrible," Collinsworth said. "You can’t have your star players show up and play like that. Andy Dalton was terrible. He made mistakes in that game I haven’t seen. But even when he got it right he had three turnovers in the game. But he gave it to Giovani Bernard right in stride. He fumbles the ball on the five-yard line. A.J. Green, their superstar player, drops a go route on the five-yard line.
"So, I mean they had plenty of opportunities. Their defense, I thought, played pretty well. But Andy Dalton and that offense, I mean some really simple basic zone blitz concepts that San Diego was throwing at them completely flustered them…Ultimately if you play in Cincinnati or Pittsburgh or Green Bay you’re going to play in lousy weather at the end of the year if you’re going to get to where you want to go. And you’ve got to be able to stand in there and make those kinds of throws."
Sound about right?
