The Bengals needed something good to happen in the worst way early in the second quarter vs. the Panthers. Following a punt by Carolina, Cincinnati was backed up to their 11-yard line after a personal foul penalty backed them up.
Making matters worse was this came just after Pro Bowl linebacker Vontaze Burfict was forced from the game with what looked to be his third concussion of the season.
Leave it to Giovani Bernard to raise the spirits of Bengaldom with an 89-yard touchdown run, the longest of his young career.
That run gave the Bengals a 14-7 lead in a game that already looks like it will be high-scoring with bot teams missing key players on both sides of the ball.
Bernard’s run was the second longest in Bengals history and the longest TD this NFL season.
The Bengals got more news later when Burfict returned to the game.
