The Bengals were back on the practice field Wednesday in preparation for their Week 7 clash with the Colts. As expected, All-Pro receiver A.J. Green was not on the field while he continues to battle a toe injury. The belief is that he won't practice until seeing another football specialist on Friday, and it's unlikely he plays Sunday at Indianapolis.
In addition to Green, starting linebackers Rey Maualuga and Emmanuel Lamur were also held out of practice Wednesday. There was speculation that Maualuga's hamstring injury suffered vs. the Panthers could lead to him being placed on I.R.
It's still possible that happens, though it looks like the team may be willing to wait and see if he can return soon enough to warrant keeping him on the roster.
Regardless, Maualuga isn't expected to play Sunday, leaving Vincent Rey to start in his place vs. the Colts. If Lamur also is held out, that could mean Jayson DiManche starts in his place.
The good news was starting right guard Kevin Zeitler was back on the field. He's looking to make his return this week after missing the past three games due to a calf injury. There is hope he'll be able to return by the time Cincinnati hosts the Ravens in week 8.
Wallace Gilberry and Brandon Thompson were also held out Wednesday. Gilberry has stitches on his face following a facial laceration during Sunday's tie with Caroline. As for Thompson, his knee injury continues to sideline him, and there's no certainty when he'll return to practice.
