Giovani Bernard limited at practice; Rey Maualuga ruled out vs. Ravens

Giovani Bernard was limited in Wednesday's practice with injured ribs.

The Bengals will be without starting middle linebacker Rey Maualuga in Week 8 when the Ravens come to town. Maualuga is still dealing with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 6 vs. the Panthers that has cost him a game already, and at least one more to come, now that he's been ruled out of Week 8.

He's expected to miss several games after this week as well. It's a tough break for Maualuga, whose in a contract year, but won't be able to do enough to earn a contract that pays him anything more than fringe starter money.

As for Giovani Bernard, the second-year running back was limited in Wednesday's practice with injured ribs. I wonder if the brutal shot he took Sunday from Vontae Davis has something to do with that. Either way, the fact that he was able to even practice in a limited capacity suggests he's good enough to start Sunday vs. Baltimore with Jeremy Hill also getting touches.
