Week 5 NFL Power Rankings

My stab at ranking the 32 teams in the NFL after Week 5.

Justin Edmonds

On Saturday, there were a bunch of top team that were upset in College Football. The NFL also kept pace with some surprising games. Our top team took a butt kicking on the national stage and the Broncos looked like they are back to top form. Here is how I think it shakes out this week:

NFL Team Wins Losses Ties Rank Previous Rank
Denver Broncos 3 1 0 1 3 Demaryius Thomas had a career day that could have been even bigger if not for penalties. The Broncos beat up on the undefeated Cardinals.
Seattle Seahawks 3 1 0 2 2 I know they beat Denver, I just don't know if they could beat them in a neutral site.
San Diego Chargers 4 1 0 3 5 The Chargers look like they could be the most complete team. They managed to make the Jets look even worse than they are.
Arizona Cardinals 3 1 0 4 4 It was a tall order to expect the Cards to go into Denver and beat them at home. They looked like they had a shot and then the Broncos exploded.
Cincinnati Bengals 3 1 0 5 1 The Patriots were ready, the Bengals were not.
Philadelphia Eagles 4 1 0 6 7 This team is too hot and cold, they have needed defensive and special teams touchdowns to win a couple of their games.
Dallas Cowboys 4 1 0 7 9 Dallas wins their 4th game in a row. They give up way to much in the rushing game, but the W is all that counts.
San Francisco 49ers 3 2 0 8 12 Took the Chiefs best shot and held on for the win at home.
Indianapolis Colts 3 2 0 9 10 The Colts offense did not want to win this game, the defense allowed them to.
Baltimore Ravens 3 2 0 10 6 The Ravens were given many opportunities to beat the Colts and just couldn't finish the drives.
Green Bay Packers 3 2 0 11 13 The offense looks fine, can the defense keep them in ball games?
New England Patriots 3 2 0 12 19 Just punched the Bengals in the mouth. If they played like that every week, they would be on the top of these rankings.
Detroit Lions 3 2 0 13 8 Without Calvin Johnson, this offense just isn't scary. Golden Tate is doing a pretty good job in Johnsons absence.
New York Giants 3 2 0 14 18 With Odell Beckham coming back, the Giants offense looks to be pretty formidable.
Pittsburgh Steelers 3 2 0 15 17 The Jaguars were in this game the whole time. The Steelers really don't look scary.
Carolina Panthers 3 2 0 16 16 I thought this defense was going to be much like it was last season. At times they have been solid.
Kansas City Chiefs 2 3 0 17 11 This is the definition of a let down game but the Chiefs had a shot at the end. Alex Smith literally tossed away that opportunity.
Houston Texans 3 2 0 18 14 Couldn't get the OT win, but at least Arian Foster looks like he is back to form.
Buffalo Bills 3 2 0 19 20 Kyle Orton is a placeholder, but for who?
Cleveland Browns 2 2 0 20 27 I say this was huge for the Browns. 25 unanswered points for the win and now face the Steelers, Buccs and Jaguars to make the fans feel like they have a shot.
Atlanta Falcons 2 3 0 21 15 Beating the Saints in week 1 looks like their peak now. This team fell apart fast.

New Orleans Saints

2 3 0 22 24 All the talk about Tom Brady last weeks takes away from the fact that Drew Brees is also not looking very good.
Miami Dolphins 2 2 0 23 22 bye
Chicago Bears 2 3 0 24 21 This Bears defense is soft. They still are a threat to score anytime but fail to stop opposing offenses.
St. Louis Rams 1 3 0 25 29 Austin Davis is putting together some good film for a shot as a starter.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1 4 0 26 30 Looked like they were going to beat rival Saints and collapsed at the end.
Washington Redskins 1 4 0 27 28 While the offense looked inept in the beginning, the Redskins had opportunities late against the Super Bowl Champs.
Minnesota Vikings 2 3 0 28 23 Teddy Bridgewater needs to get healthy for the Vikings, Adrian Peterson needs to be erased from this team.
Tennessee Titans 1 4 0 29 26 I thought Whitehurst was going to run away with the game, then the Browns clamped down and ended that quickly.
New York Jets 1 4 0 30 25 Is it bad I like watching this team struggle? Rex Ryan is probably feeling some heat.
Jacksonville Jaguars 0 5 0 31 32 The Ebola / terrible towel joke was pretty funny.
Oakland Raiders 0 4 0 32 31 bye
