The Bengals entered Week 9 with just three healthy running backs, after Giovani Bernard was declared out vs. the Jaguars. Needless to say, this was one of the last positions for which they could afford an injury, but Murphy's Law hates Cincinnati.
Jeremy Hill got his first NFL start against the Jags, but after a productive 1.5 quarters, he was forced from the game with a knee injury.
The good news is the team announced both Hill and Andre Smith were expected to return. Smith left earlier in the game with an ankle injury.
The play happened on 1st-and-goal on a play-action fake in which Andy Dalton threw a swing-pass to A.J. Green that he fumbled, but the ball was recovered by Mohamed Sanu. On the play, Hill was attempting to block his man by going low, but injured his knee in the process, and was down on the field for a few minutes after the play ended.
With Hill out, the Bengals relied on Rex Burkhead and Cedric Peerman, both of whom rarely played at all before Bernard's injury.
