Bengals Bites (12/15) - Coming Up Short

To say the least, the Bengals "Handled" Johnny Manziel in yesterday's game. It really couldn't have gotten worse for the guy on his home turf. Welcome to the NFL.

Johnny Manziel: I’m not using the rookie excuse | ProFootballTalk
If NFL seasons played out like fairy tales in Cleveland, Johnny Manziel would have led the Browns to a dramatic win over the Bengals on Sunday before winning the final two games of the season to lead the Browns to a division title and playoff berth in his first three starts as an NFL player.

That Couldn't Have Gone Much Worse For Johnny Manziel
Well, shit. Johnny Manziel made his first NFL start today, and it was about as thorough a mollywhopping as you'll see from the professionals.

Columnist: Browns rookie Johnny Manziel flops, but it wasn't all his fault  | Dallas Morning News
The Browns’ 22nd overall pick was horrible in his first NFL start. He held the ball too long. He admitted that a second-quarter interception in the end zone was a throw you don’t make in Pop Warner or playing in the driveway as a 6-year-old. Even on decent gains, like a 19-yard completion to Josh Gordon, his feet weren’t set, he was falling backwards and he still decided to float the ball over the Bengals’ line.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns - Recap - December 14, 2014 - ESPN
They chased him. They taunted him. They made him look scared. The Cincinnati Bengals dismantled Johnny Manziel. Woe, Johnny. Manziel spent his first NFL start being tormented and taunted by Cincinnati defenders as the Bengals rudely welcomed the rookie quarterback to the league with a 30-0 drubbing of the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

OK, that certainly sounds off-base to compare Manziel to a four-time Super Bowl winner and a Hall of Famer. Especially considering Manziel's rookie debut for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, in which he went 10-of-18 for 80 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in a 30-0 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at FirstEnergy Stadium.
