The Cincinnati Bengals will not have the services Tyler Eifert again this year. Head coach Marvin Lewis confirmed Friday the second-year tight end will remain on the injured reserve recall list and not be placed on the active roster after dislocating his elbow in Week 1.
Lewis also revealed that Eifert had shoulder surgery two weeks ago apparently to repair another injury he sustained during training camp. Eifert was placed on I.R. recall in Week 2 after sustaining the injury in the first quarter of the team's season-opening win over the Baltimore Ravens.
It was reported earlier this year that Eifert could return to the playoffs, but the Bengals obviously felt it was better to just go ahead and end his season and let all of his injuries heal.
With Eifert out, the Bengals will have only Jermaine Gresham and Kevin Brock as their true tight ends, though h-back Ryan Hewitt has gotten some runs there as well.
