NFL Power Rankings Roundup: Dropping Like It's Hot

The Cincinnati Bengals have an average Power Ranking of 12.8 based on the six major sites we follow. They fall between 17 and a high of 9.

It's no real surprise that the Bengals went into total free fall after the fourth quarter against the Steelers. This is the time when we remind you that Power Rankings are "Stupid" and the only real rankings that matter are those when the playoffs start. But, the Bengals have made their bed and now they and the fans are lying in it.

The drastic drops of 6 and 5 places are a little too knee jerk in my opinion. Like much of the national media, the people that do their rankings allow their notions of what they think a team is and where that team should actually be. For example, in many of these rankings, the Ravens are ranked higher than the Bengals. Need I remind anyone that the Bengals still have a better record, with a tougher schedule and have topped the Ravens twice this season. There is really no reason the Ravens should be ranked higher.

It is what it is, though. If these rankings mattered than I may make more of a stink about some of the things I see. Truth is, they don't matter. However, that doesn't stop us from looking them over and getting angry / happy about what we see each week.
