Texans see QB selection as inevitable - Houston Chronicle

There's been speculation that Atlanta might try to entice Smith to swap first-round spots so the Falcons can select Clowney. Everyone I've spoken to in the NFL - or those I trust and who used to coach or scout in the league - has told me they're convinced Manziel will get injured. In other words, will Manziel be like Robert Griffin III and take so many unnecessary hits it makes his teammates, coaches and fans cringe? If he stays healthy and plays in a system designed to take advantage of his skills, he can have a terrific NFL career. The idea of having Clowney on the right side and J.J. Watt on the left side surrounded by Whitney Mercilus, Brooks Reed and Brian Cushing must have Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel excited. If the Texans select Clowney, he'll never live up to expectations and will suffer the same criticism that dogged Mario Williams for six seasons. If the Texans choose Manziel and he helps make them a playoff team, they'll cut into the Cowboys' popularity for the first time.
