Bengals quietly put together solid draft | Comcast SportsNet Baltimore
Meanwhile, there was another team in Ohio that participated in the NFL Draft last week. In all the hoo-hah over the Cleveland Browns and their follow-the-bouncing-draft-pick act in the first round on the way to reeling in spotlight grabber Johnny Manziel, the Cincinnati Bengals’ draft didn’t get a whole lot of attention.
Cincinnati Bengals OTA and minicamp schedule for 2014 - FanSided
The Cincinnati Bengals had another solid regular season in 2013, which culminated in a trip to the AFC playoffs. Unfortunately, once again, their playoff stay was short-lived as they were bounced in the first round by the San Diego Chargers. In 2014, there should be no reason that this team can’t have another crack at a Super Bowl run, and that starts with the work in the upcoming offseason training programs.
Cincinnati Bengals add RB to UDFA group - ESPN
The Cincinnati Bengals added another running back to their group of undrafted free agents Tuesday, signing Jeff Scott. The former Mississippi running back joins 10 other undrafted rookies who were added to Cincinnati's roster Monday. He's one of four running backs who reached an agreement with the team since the end of Saturday's NFL draft. The other backfield additions were running back James Wilder Jr. (Florida State), fullback/tight end/H-back Ryan Hewitt (Stanford) and defensive tackle-turned-fullback Nikita Whitlock.
Top Pick Analysis: The Bengals had a very productive draft, standing pat at No. 24 and landing what some believe was the best cornerback in the draft, Michigan State press-corner star Darqueze Dennard. Beefing up the cornerback position was a key for Cincy because Leon Hall is coming off an Achilles injury and Terence Newman will be 36 by next season.
The Browns traded up from the 26th pick to the 22nd pick to draft Johnny Manziel last week, a move that generated enough excitement in Cleveland that they sold more than 1,000 season tickets in the day after Manziel joined the team.
Former NFL linebacker Aaron Maybin retired from football Tuesday just five years after being selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. His retirement was announced by the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.
Johnny Manziel will play pro football in Cleveland, and has a deal with Nike. The next step in the process is to design Johnny Football his own signature shoe.
The offseason is all but over – not in terms of duration, unfortunately, but based on the moves teams are going to make in order to improve their roster. They’ve made cuts. They’ve signed free agents. And now, they’ve drafted their class of 2014. Other than a few minor tweaks and cutting down rosters, each NFL franchise has what it is going to have heading into the upcoming season.
