Cincinnati Bengals Undrafted Free Agent Contract Breakdown

Kevork Djansezian

It's easy to figure out what every draft pick will be making this year, as the NFL essentially has their contracts already slotted into place for all 256 picks.

While there are things like offset and guaranteed money that can be negotiated, there's not too much work that goes into getting a drafted player to sign his deal.

As for undrafted free agents, there's a little more work to do. The collective bargaining agreement dictates that all contracts signed by rookie free-agents are three years in length with a minimum value of $1.44 million over the life of the contract. But not all rookie free agent contracts are exactly the same, as teams can guarantee differing amounts of money to each player upon signing them.

Coley Harvey took a look at what the Cincinnati Bengals' UDFAs will be making this year, as well as the amount of singing bonus money it took to lure each player to Cincinnati.

Player Position Cap Value Cash Value Base Salary Signing Bonus
Ryan Hewitt FB $423,000 $433,000 $420,000 $10,000
Colin Lockett WR $422,667 $428,000 $420,000 $8,000
James Wilder Jr. RB $422,000 $426,000 $420,000 $6,000
Jeff Scott RB $422,667 $422,000 $420,000 $2,000
Nikita Whitlock FB $420,000 $420,000 $420,000 $0
Alex Neutz WR $420,000 $420,000 $420,000 $0
Trey Hopkins OL $420,000 $420,000 $420,000 $0
Dan France OL $420,000 $420,000 $420,000 $0
Curtis Feigt OL $420,000 $420,000 $420,000 $0
James Davidson DE $420,000 $420,000 $420,000 $0
Isaiah Lewis DB $420,000 $420,000 $420,000 $0

Interesting that two of the three players the Bengals gave signing bonuses to were running backs. It's like they don't have enough of those to begin with.

Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard are locks for the 53-man roster, while BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Rex Burkhead, Cedric Peerman, James Wilder Jr. and Jeff Scott will fight it out for probably two more RB spots.
