Cincy Jungle Writer's mock draft: Denver Broncos on the clock

A great pick here could be key to the Broncos repeating as AFC champions and actually being competitive in next year's Super Bowl

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The latest edition of the Cincy Jungle Writer's Mock Draft is here. Be sure to keep up with all of the picks in a out stream page.

Next up are the Denver Broncos. A great pick here could be key to Denver repeating as AFC champions and actually being competitive in next year's Super Bowl

Jason Broncos take Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State

The Broncos need to keep upgrading theri defense to keep up with their record-breaking offense. With Wesley Woodyard having left in free agency and Von Miller recovering from a torn ACL, adding a linebacker with this pick would be wise.

Ryan Shazeir managed to fall right into Denver's laps, and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio specializes in getting the best out of his backers.

A very productive backer with the Buckeyes, Shazier registered 115 tackles (17 TFLs) with  five sacks, 11 pass breakups, an interception touchdown and three forced fumbles in 2012. He followed that up with 134 stops (22.5 TFLs) with six sacks, four pass breakups and four forced fumbles.

Anthony: Broncos take Jason Verrett, CB, TCU

Most draftniks seem to feel that Verrett is the best all-around corner in the draft, yet he is overlooked by some of the others that will likely go ahead of him. He's small (5'9") and had injury issues last year, but he seems to do everything well. He'll help out in the running game and can stick to a receiver very well in short or long routes.

Yes, the Broncos grabbed Aqib Talib in free agency and have Chris Harris and Tony Carter, but they lost future Hall of Famer Champ Bailey. Verrett would be a valuable guy to add to the mix.

Mickey: Broncos take Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State

If Shazier falls to the Broncos they will be enamored at the possibilities of him in Denver. He is very fast and has a great football IQ. Basically he is smart enough to figure out the play and fast enough to react to it. In a pass happy division he would be welcomed to help cover tight ends and slot receivers at times.

If he is asked to rush the QB his speed helps him disrupt in the backfield. He may need to get bigger to play the position at the next level, but his physical tools are there and strong.
