Jaguars grab first quarterback

The Jacksonville Jaguars dropped the first bombshell (if you can call it that), selecting Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles at No. 3 overall. Bortles was considered the top quarterback in the 2014 NFL draft, but higher profile quarterbacks like Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater sipped their ice cold beverage waiting for their respective names to be called.

As for Jacksonville, they get a quarterback with good size that might be viewed as a reach.

Who cares.

After a season with Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert (now with the San Francisco 49ers) as your quarterbacks in 2013, the Jaguars needed a future at quarterback. Alfie Crow at Big Cat Country writes:

Picking a quarterback is a surprise to most, but it's a move that makes a ton of sense if you consider where the Jaguars would be picking in the second round of the draft.

Most expected the Jaguars to pass on a quarterback in the first round, but it's clear the Jaguars had their guy at the position and didn't think he would fall to them in the second round
