Darqueze Dennard joined The Mo Egger Show on ESPN 1530 on Friday afternoon in Cincinnati to discuss being selected by the Bengals. Dennard seemed genuinely excited to be a Bengal. At one point in the interview he rattled off a numerous Bengals players' names and attributed it to being a "football fan."
He wasn't shy when asked how he will fare at the NFL level.
"My game translates very well," said Dennard. "I think I'm an NFL-ready corner. I think I prepare like a professional already. I prepare for the game like I'm an eight-year veteran. I'm a complete football player. I can cover, I can blitz, I can tackle, I'm intelligent and I have sound technique. I got the tools to become a pro bowl type corner."
Despite the confidence Dennard admitted that he had plenty of room to get better.
"I can improve the most with my mental knowledge of the game. I think all areas of my game can always get better. You can always work to perfect your craft, but at the same time I think I'm polished and ready to plug in right now."
When Dennard was asked what cornerback he models his game after, he named one of the best in the NFL.
"I'd say Darrelle Revis. You can tell he studies the game a lot and he's physical. He's a press corner like myself and he's a complete football player."
Dennard certainly has high expectations for himself and has the confidence necessary to play at a high level in the NFL. Time will tell if he can be the corner that fills the hole that Jonathan Joseph left three-years ago.
