The 2014 World Cup continues, but now the knockout round is here. This format features 16 teams competing for global dominance. No longer can teams lose and tie to advance.
Now, it's do or die for each team in single-elimination games from here on out. Knockout plya begins on June 28, with the quarter-finals starting on July 4. The semi-finals then take place on July 8 and 9, with the final of the tournament scheduled for July 13.
All four teams from the semi-finals are assured one more game. The losers of both semifinal games will play in a 3rd-place match held in Brasilia on July 12, one day before the final.
Here is an outline of how the knockout play works.
