The Baltimore Ravens have lost defensive tackle Brent Urban for the entire 2014 NFL season.
The rookie defensive tackle suffered a torn ACL in practice Wednesday, and he'll soon be placed on the injured reserve list.
Urban was taken with the 134th-overall pick in the draft out of Virginia.
The 6'7", 300-pound Urban has the ability to play defensive tackle in a 4-3 defense or defensive end in a 3-4 defense like the one Ravens defensive coordinator Dean Pees runs. Urban may have been drafted higher in the NFL draft had he not been forced to have offseason surgery to repair damage caused by the high-ankle sprain that cost him four games during his senior season.
In 2013, Urban was an All-ACC Honorable mention pick after starting eight games (missed four games due to leg injury) and getting nine pass breakups, an astounding number for an interior defensive lineman.
His last full season of football was in 2012, when he registered 20 tackles, one sack and a pair of pass deflections in 12 starts.
This is a sad way to see a player begin his NFL career. Judging by last season's injury to go with this one, it's hard to see Urban making it in the NFL as anything more than a reserve lineman.
