The Cincinnati Bengals are set to face the N.Y. Jets tonight in Week 2 of the NFL preseason. Training camp is over, and now it's about what players are putting on film in live-game action is critical for their chances of making the 53-man roster.
Instead of an in-depth roster prediction and analysis, here's my quick version of what I believe the 53-man roster and 8-man practice squad would look like if today was cutdown day.
Running Backs (4)
Tight Ends (3) and Fullback (1)
Wide Receivers (7)
Offensive Line (8)
Mike Pollak (C/G)
Russell Bodine (C)
Kevin Zeitler (G)
Clint Boling (G)
Marshall Newhouse (G/T)
Andrew Whitworth (T/G)
Andre Smith (T)
Trey Hopkins (G/T)
Defensive Lineman (9)
Special Teams (3)
Last Four In: Hamilton, DiManche, Burkhead, Hopkins
First four out: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Cristo Bilukidi, RJ Stanford and Scott (goes out to keep Hamilton with Marvin Jones hurt)
PUP(Doesn't count against 53-man roster)
James Wilder Jr.
The Bengals opt to not use the I.R. recall designation on Marvin Jones and keep him on the active roster. Of the guys I projected to the practice squad, one of them probably gets scooped up by another team when Cincinnati waives them.
