The Cincinnati Bengals will be down several starters against the New York Jets. All-Pro defensive tackle Geno Atkins headlines the list. This was expected, as Atkins just now got his first 11-on-11 action this week. He's further along in his rehab than most expected he would be, and there's a chance he's ready to suit up in Week 3 vs. the Cardinals, though he'll be inactive even if he's able to play.
As for the emerging Tyler Eifert, he suffered a minor shoulder injury early in training camp that hasn't gotten better, so the team is holding him out tonight after giving him time off from practice this week. Jermaine Gresham will get the start at tight end tonight, and figures to see a lot of targets.
Andre Smith has yet to pass his concussion test, according to Dave Lapham. That's why he's being held out tonight. He was diagnosed with a concussion almost two weeks ago, so this is becoming a bit concerning. With Smith out, Marshall Newhouse will start at right tackle with Andrew Whitworth on the left side.
Jason Campbell, AJ McCarron, Sean Porter, Dontay Moch and Marvin Jones are also inactive tonight. Porter and Moch are falling further from the 53-man roster as they continue to miss practice, and now a preseason game.
