UPDATE
Bengals quarterback Jason Campbell returned to practice on Monday after missing the past week due to a lingering elbow injury.
***
When the Cincinnati Bengals head west for a Sunday Night Football meeting against Carson Palmer's Arizona Cardinals this weekend, backup quarterback Jason Campbell may not be ready to play. Campbell bruised his elbow against the Kansas City Chiefs during Cincinnati's preseason opener. As a result, with rookie A.J. McCarron on the shelf, the Bengals moved Matt Scott to second position and signed free agent Tyler Wilson for depth.
Despite Scott's impressive debut against the Chiefs, he struggled Saturday against the New York Jets, completing eight of 22 passes for 54 yards passing and an interception. Wilson played slightly better with a 7/13 completion rate but sustained a significant hit toward the end of the game and was pulled.
If Campbell is unable to go, figure that Scott is the second-team replacement. However, third preseason games are generally considered dress rehearsals, so there's a chance that Dalton completes the first half and perhaps plays into the third quarter against the Cardinals.
Breaking down Dalton and the rest of Cincinnati's quarterbacks:
ATT | COMP | PCT | YDS | AVG | TD | INT | RATING | |
Andy Dalton | 11 | 13 | 84.6% | 215 | 16.5 | 1 | 0 | 144.4 |
Everyone Else | 61 | 28 | 45.9% | 231 | 8.25 | 4 | 3 | 57.5 |
