The 2014 training camp debuts of several key Bengals took place on Monday during the 10th practice session. Offensive tackle Andre Whitworth, wide receiver Marvin Jones and tight end Jermaine Gresham were all activated from the Active Physically Unable to Perform List.
Whitworth had missed camp to this point while recovering from a calf strain suffered during the pre-camp conditioning test. Gresham was rehabbing from offseason hernia surgery. Jones was dealing with an ankle injury he suffered while working out in Texas with Andy Dalton and other Bengals receivers.
Also making their camp debuts were defensive lineman Kevin Minter and wide receiver Ryan Whalen. Both players are long shots to make the roster, but having them back will help provide more depth at their positions.
Jones had opened training camp on the Active/Non-Football Injury list, and the other four players had opened camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Of those five, Gresham was the one who needed to get back on the field the most. He's got a lot riding on this year, the last of his rookie deal before he'll hit free agency for the first time in 2015. He needs to have a big year for any team to want to pay him like a quality No. 1 tight end.
