The Bengals' biggest competition for the AFC North this year may very well be the Pittsburgh Steelers. That certainly won't be the case though if they keep getting gashed in the run game like they did Saturday night against the New York Giants.
After forcing New York into a 3-and-out on their first drive, it took just one play on the Giants' second drive to expose Pittsburgh's defense. New running back Rashad Jennings went right up the middle for a 73-yard TD to give New York an early 7-3 lead.
It's worth pointing out that several of Pitt's best defenders, including safety Troy Polamalu and rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier, didn't play. Still, it's unusual in even a preseason game to see Pitt give up that big of a play.
The Steelers finished 21st in run defense in 2013, which helped lead to their second straight 8-8 season. The Bengals, especially Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill, hope that trend continues in 2014.
