It was on Sunday when the Cincinnati Bengals invited tight end Kevin Greene for a workout. Impressed enough to sign Greene to a spot on the team's practice squad, we thought... who is this guy?
Following the 2014 NFL draft, Greene signed as a college free agent with the San Francisco 49ers after four seasons at USC with a variety of positions on his resume. In 2009, he was a redshirt freshman at linebacker. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, he was a backup defensive end and special teams player, recording a handful of statistics (notably five tackles and two sacks in 11 games played during '12). Then as a senior, he moved to tight end "to augment a talented but thin position group."
Greene caught one pass for the 49ers, a deflected football that he caught and sprinted with for 48 yards down the sidelines. San Francisco released Greene last week when teams were limited to a 75-man maximum on their active roster.
