It looks as though the Cincinnati Bengals didn't get the diagnosis on Tyler Eifert they were hoping for. The team was hopeful Eifert, who dislocated his elbow during a 14-yard reception in the first quarter during Sunday's win in Baltimore, would only miss a few weeks and return after the bye week.
However, it'll take a bit more time than that.
The team announced on Wednesday that Eifert will be placed on the Injured Reserve Recall List. A few years ago, the league created a new rule that allows one player on Injured Reserve to return later in the season. However, Eifert will be unable to practice for six weeks and he won't be eligible to play until Nov. 6, when the Bengals play the Cleveland Browns.
At this point, expect Jermaine Gresham to become a bigger part of the offense. The former 21st-overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft is in a contract year, and this is a big opportunity for him to show he can be an impact No. 1 tight end, though he has yet to do so in Cincinnati.
