There aren't that many blemishes on Cincinnati's resume through the first two regular season games. The pace of injuries seems particularly troublesome... yet Cincinnati's depth continues to pull them out of those fires. Vontaze Burfict is concussed, and Emmanuel Lamur and Vinny Rey have stepped in. A.J. Green hurt his foot and the team relied on ____ (enter corny nickname for Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill).
Either way, the blemishes are small.
Except for Mike Nugent, who has had a rough start on the season. After converting five straight field goals against the Baltimore Ravens, becoming a nominee for AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, Nugent missed three of his last four attempts -- including one that was blocked against the Ravens.
He's not worried (at least that's what he says) and his misses against the Falcons can be drawn up as not learning from your mistakes.
"I really did a bad job not learning from the first miss," Nugent said via Bengals.com. "It was a great ball. I couldn't believe I missed it. Usually the process is I ask myself, ‘What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?’ Usually when I hit a nice straight, smooth ball and it misses, it’s just in my alignment. I wasn't where I was supposed to be."
Nugent isn't worried and neither should you (he says).
"You just have to watch the film, sit in the room with the guys, and learn what you did wrong. You just have to fix it for this week."
