Washington Redskins hire Perry Fewell as their defensive backs coach

The theorized scenario that Cincinnati could be interested in Perry Fewell, freeing up Vance Joseph for Denver, didn't play out as day-dreamed.

The Washington Redskins have hired former New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell as their defensive backs coach, according to the Washington Post. Fewell, fired after the Giants ranked 29th in the NFL in 2014, also recently interviewed with the San Francisco 49ers. The previous defensive backs coach, Raheem Morris, verbally agreed to join Dan Quinn's staff in Atlanta.

One ESPN writer theorized that Fewell could impact Vance Joseph's candidacy as Denver's newest defensive coordinator, if the Bengals found someone that could replace him as the defensive backs coach. Per Jeff Legworld:

However, the Broncos have continued their efforts with the Bengals to hire Joseph in recent days, and now there is a feeling within the Broncos’ front office that if the Bengals believe they can find a replacement on their defensive staff for Joseph, they would be more inclined to let Joseph take the promotion with the Broncos.

Denver might be realizing now that NO, MEANS NO. They are planning to interview Wade Philips and former Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith this week.
