You wonder if Jeremy Hill was prepared for this.
Despite scoring two touchdowns against the Oakland Raiders, Hue Jackson called out Hill. Two fumbles against the Chargers forced him onto the bench against San Diego and last week in Baltimore, Hill averaged 1.8 yards/rush (generating 21 yards on 12 carries).
It's been rough.
However, he's not frustrated, writes Bengals.com:
"I'm not frustrated. We're 3-0," Hill said after Thursday's practice. "I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing. Keep grinding, keep working hard, keep practicing well and keep assignment sound. I'm going to keep doing my job and keep doing what got me here. I have no reason to change anything. This is a team sport. I'm not here for personal goals or accolades. All I'm trying to do is win football games."
Hill became only the third rookie in NFL history with four 140-yard rushing performances, joining Eric Dickerson (5 in 1983) and Curtis Martin (4 in 1995). In addition to being one of the top rookies in the NFL last year, Hill led all NFL running backs in yards rushing during the final nine weeks of the regular season in 2014.
His overall lack of production would seem somewhat shocking but everyone, from offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to Hill himself are confident that his opportunities are coming: "It's coming," Hill said earlier this week. "I talked to Hue after (the game) and he knows it's coming. We can feel it. There are certain plays, certain situations where we can feel it."
With Tyler Eifert having a fast start, steady Marvin Jones coming on strong and A.J. Green exploding last week against the Ravens, can you imagine this offense when Hill gets going?
