Sports are necessary and unnecessary.
Paris experienced more tragedy and heartbreak Friday night as militants orchestrated coordinated attacks against several entertainment and other venues, leading to the loss of more than 120 lives and 200+ injuries (many critically). Our hearts pour out to France, a country that has been one of our longest allies since the American Revolution.
There are times when sports become such a meaningless culture within the context of real world events. Is any of this meaningful? Does it matter? The answer is a resounding affirmation, one that requires our insistence toward normalcy. If there are any French readers on Cincy Jungle, we love you and stand behind you. Hopefully we're here to bring some sense of normality back into a life that may have changed forever.
So yes, sports are absolutely necessary.
As for the Bengals, the crew returned to practice on Saturday -- the so-called walkthrough session usually scheduled for Fridays in the team's revised practice scheme this year. Due to Monday's game, all sessions were moved forward a day, with the first session opening on Thursday (though they practiced on Tuesday, too) and their final up-tempo session scheduled for Sunday.
Once their session was over, Cincinnati announced that while Andre Smith (concussion) will miss Monday's game, offensive guard Kevin Zeitler and linebackers Vontaze Burfict and Rey Maualuga are probable. Smith, currently under concussion protocols since Pittsburgh, missed last Thursday's game against Cleveland. Maualuga, also out last week against Cleveland, recovered from a calf. As for the Texans, linebacker Jadeveon Clowney and cornerback Kareem Jackson are out.
