Week 15 Cincinnati Bengals at San Francisco 49ers: Wednesday official practice and injury report

New, comments

The 49ers may be the most injured team the Bengals have yet to face. But, the Bengals may be the most banged up they've been all season, especially with Andy Dalton out and Tyler Eifert's status for Sunday greatly in question.

The Bengals' first practice of the week saw four starters sitting out (not including Andy Dalton) and four starters limited. Thursday and Friday's practices will be more telling, as is the case every week, but it wasn't a great start to the week in preparation for the San Francisco 49ers. The good news is, Adam Jones was one of those limited players, so he may be able to play this weekend after missing Sunday's Steelers game.

Michael Johnson has a new back injury and didn't practice today. Andrew Whitworth is also unexpectedly on the injury report with a knee injury, though he did practice in a limited role. It's unknown when each of their injuries occurred or how serious they may be. Whitworth usually gets Wednesdays off, but was likely practicing today to help new starting quarterback AJ McCarron.

Vontaze Burfict was limited with the report noting his knee. He left Sunday's game many times, but never with a knee issue. It's possible he was just getting some rest as he's had the last few Thursdays off as a rest day.

Tyler Eifert is in the league's concussion protocol and there is no news on when he may be back or if he'll play this weekend. It's very possible he won't be playing on Sunday in San Francisco.

The 49ers have several injured players and the longest injury list I've seen all season. Many of their players are in the NFL's concussion protocol. Third string running back Kendall Gaskins suffered his concussion this past week, but all of the other concussed players have already missed at least one game. Vance McDonald and Aaron Lynch are both in the protocol as well, but according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, both are expected to play on Sunday.
