Bengals Bites (3/11) - Feels So Good

The NFL went crazy yesterday with the most action at the start of the league year that I can remember in a long time. So here are some links with re-cap and reactions from around the web.

You may be wondering about the "In Your Face" title for today's bites, but to me, it makes perfect sense. Today is March 11th, also known as 311 day. 311 happens to be one of my favorite bands, so I picked a song and went with it. The Bengals are reportedly in range of a deal to keep their starting left guard. Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports Cincinnati is "closing in on" an agreement to bring back fifth-year pro Clint Boling. The Vikings were thought a potential suitor for Boling.

Cincinnati Bengals to get visit from DT Nick Fairley - ESPN
Free-agent defensive tackle Nick Fairley will be visiting the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. The fourth-year defensive tackle became available earlier Tuesday after the Detroit Lions let him hit unrestricted free agency. A former first-round pick, Fairley also was denied a potential fifth-year option by the Lions last offseason. Which begs the question ... why?

Also, the Bengals are not offering defensive tackle Devon Still a tender Tuesday, but they did offer him a one-year deal for an amount less than the $1.54 million low-round tender he qualified for, a source said. Still, whose daughter, Leah, has been fighting stage 4 pediatric cancer over the past several months, is mulling the offer while he takes family matters into account, the source said.

A.J. Hawk, Cincinnati Bengals agree to contract - ESPN
The Cincinnati Bengals have reached agreement on a contract with former Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. A.J. Hawk is bound for Cincinnati after nine seasons in Green Bay. The Packers released Hawk, 31, in February, saving $3.5 million against the salary cap.

Texans pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney had a pretty rough rookie season, which was erased almost entirely by a series of injuries. He's currently recovering from microfracture knee surgery, and now he has to deal with an arm that was savaged by teammate D.J. Swearinger's pit bull.

Arizona police say Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Tanner Rahier argued with a bartender at a Glendale restaurant early Saturday morning, argued with his girlfriend outside the restaurant, and threw a rock at her head, knocking her unconscious.
