The Cincinnati Bengals were among those in attendance for Wisconsin's Pro Day on Wednesday.
They probably weren't there to see all-everything running back Melvin Gordon, and the Badgers don't have a host of other draftable prospects this year. Offensive tackle Rob Havenstein might be someone Cincinnati looks at in the latter rounds, but on this day, it was a guy from local small school they were interested in.
In fact, it was Wisconsin-Whitewater receiver Jake Kumerow who the Bengals reportedly scheduled a workout with. He's an intriguing prospect, which you'll know if you've read Gang Green Nation's profile of him. Just looking at the numbers, Kumerow is quite impressive.
You don't see many 6-5, 208-pound receivers who can run a 4.5 40-time. You also don't see many guys catch 143 passes for 2,447 yards and 33 scores over a two-year span. That's what Kumerow did over two seasons at the FCS level.
Oh, and his father, Eric Kumerow, was a first-round selection of the Miami Dolphins in 1988. Having an NFL background to go with big-time production is great for any small-school prospect to have. It's easy to see how he appears to have caught the Bengals' eye.
Here's how CBS Sports ranked Kumerow and the draft-eligible Badgers.
